The Appearance of Guppies
Guppies are a fairly small fish. They range anywhere from 2 inches to 2.5 inches depending on gender with females being larger. The males have very bright colors which are used to attract females, however it makes them a lot easier for predators to find. The more colorful the guppy the likelihood of them having better genes increases. This may be because it has survived despite having such a disadvantage being brightly colored. Females are usually pale gray or silver. The most "colorful" a female will be is pale yellow. More differences between the males and females are their fins. The male's anal fin is long, thin, and pointed and they have large dorsal fins. The female's dorsal fin is smaller and it's anal fin is small and triangular shaped and often has a dark spot above it. This spot is visible when the female is pregnant and is almost always visible because females are almost always pregnant.
